Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π. While π is certainly important, we enjoy the excuse to bake one of America’s favorite desserts: pie!
Historians have recorded that the roots of pie can loosely be traced back to the ancient Egyptians during the Neolithic Period or New Stone Age beginning around 6000 BC. Pie has remained a constant in the world’s diet since, with ingredients and techniques adapting as time goes on.
When in the New World, the colonists’ pies adapted simultaneously to the materials available to them, mostly using fruits and berries pointed out to them by the Native Americans.
